Responding to the Rapidly Growing Motion Capture Market
Leading companies in the motion capture industry, VICON and Crescent, will launch a short-term intensive course to train motion capture specialists in October 2025. This program aims to address the rapidly expanding demand and cultivate motion capture engineers who are in short supply across various industries. The course is a collaboration between Born Digital Inc. and the general incorporated association Teito Pictures.
Developing Talent for Diverse Fields
In recent years, the application of motion capture has rapidly expanded, encompassing photorealistic content creation, live streaming for virtual YouTubers, and advanced AR concerts, including digital humans. However, there is a pressing shortage of professionals who can properly understand the systems and respond to practical applications, making their development an urgent issue. Against this backdrop, the VICON × Crescent specialized training program was born.
Practical Curriculum and Introduction of Expert Instructors
This course features a comprehensive 10-day intensive curriculum based on VICON’s latest technology, covering everything from the fundamentals to practical applications. The program includes the basics of motion capture, preparation for filming using Shogun, data collection, post-processing, and the production process.
The instructors include Katsuaki Honma, the chief motion capture engineer at Crescent, whose practical experience informs the course content. Honma is also known as the only Japanese motion capture engineer who has participated in numerous projects at major Hollywood studios.
Broad Support Provided by Born Digital
Born Digital, the co-host of the course, primarily supports the production of anime, films, and games, while also extending its reach to digital content production in industries such as manufacturing, architecture, and apparel. They provide a wide range of support through the introduction of specialized software and hardware and the publication of books aimed at skill acquisition.
Impressions and Outlook
The launch of such specialized courses holds significant meaning for this rapidly evolving industry. With the cultivation of numerous future motion capture technicians, the creation of more innovative content is expected. It is hoped that such specialized training programs will continue to expand, leading to a richer offering of digital content in the future.
