Recently, streams using VRChat have been increasing. You might wonder, “How are they doing this?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With VRChat’s new feature, you only need a webcam and PC to track facial expressions and hand movements for streaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time, I’ll introduce a streaming method using “Selfie Expression.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u203b The following content describes operations on a desktop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Selfie Expression?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Selfie Expression is a VRChat feature that tracks facial expressions and hand movements using a webcam. With this, you can mirror your movements onto an avatar using just a PC and webcam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This feature is available for users subscribed to the paid plan known as VRChat+ (as of 2025\/03\/17).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enable Selfie Expression and Start Tracking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here’s how to enable Selfie Expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subscribe to VRChat+<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned earlier, Selfie Expression is a feature exclusive to the paid plan called VRChat+, so subscribing to VRChat+ is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Press Esc to open the menu and click the VRChat+ tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click “Learn more about VRChat+”.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Select either monthly or yearly payment and proceed with payment via Steam.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Once the payment is complete, you will be subscribed to VRChat+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Switch VRChat to Open Beta<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Selfie Expression is offered in VRChat Open Beta, so you’ll need to switch to Open Beta on Steam. Follow these steps while VRChat is not running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Select VRChat in the Steam library > click the gear icon on the right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Click “Properties.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. In the window that opens, click the Beta tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Switch beta participation to open-beta.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Enable Selfie Expression<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Next, here’s how to enable Selfie Expression. Start VRChat and press the Esc key to open the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      2. Click the button in the upper right to open advanced settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Once in advanced settings, select “Tracking and IK” from the left tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Under facial tracking settings, turn ON “Enable Selfie Expression” to start face tracking with the webcam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. To track hand movements, turn ON “Selfie Expression Also Moves Hands.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. To switch webcams, click “Change Webcam Device.” Select the webcam you wish to use from the list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Capture VRChat Video in OBS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          Next, I’ll show you how to capture VRChat video in OBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          In VRChat, there’s a camera, and you can capture the video into OBS using Spout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Enable Spout in VRChat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Follow these steps to position the camera and enable Spout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Press Esc to open the menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Click the camera from the bottom tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Click “Stream Camera.”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            1. Turn ON camera’s Spout stream.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              Through the camera menu, by masking out the world, you can create a video with a transparent background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Enable Spout in OBS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              To use Spout in OBS, install obs-spout2-plugin<\/a>. Download the latest version (OBS_Spout2_Plugin_Install_vX.X.exe) and install it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              1. Once installation is complete, launch OBS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              2. Select “Spout2 Capture” from the sources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              3. Choose “VRCSender1” as the source.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
