This time, we spoke with Mitchon and CEO Popo P, discussing their journey, thoughts on their VTubers, and the screen design service “Alive Studio”.

Mitchon

Hi, I’m Mitchon, the official character of the VTuber agency Replay Live! Nice to meet you.

── It’s quite unique for an official character to also stream independently and host streams with VTubers. Was this role intended from the outset?

Mitchon

I wasn’t comfortable being in the spotlight originally, appearing only once a week to introduce VTubers. I rarely streamed solo, but lately, I’ve been doing solo streams once or twice a week more frequently.

Popo P

The company needed someone to smoothly handle collaboration streams. Leaving it to the VTubers sometimes resulted in clashing personalities, making it hard to ensure everyone had their spotlight. With Mitchon in between, she balances the focus on everyone. Our principle of keeping VTubers as the main stars hasn’t changed, and Mitchon getting more exposure is just a natural outcome of meeting needs.

── Is there a chance Mitchon herself will aim for bigger stages as her popularity grows?

Mitchon

I intend to stay in a supportive role for the VTubers, whom I really love. Seeing them shine is the greatest joy for me. Being a bit in the shadows suits me perfectly.

Even if it’s not obvious, Mitchon is quite the introvert.

── How did someone like Mitchon end up as the official character?

Popo P

She was the reason this company was formed.

I met Mitchon at my last job, got introduced to the world of VTubers through her, and found it fascinating. Before that, I had no knowledge of VTubers, but it seemed like a wildly interesting realm.

── Would Replay Live have existed without meeting Mitchon?

Popo P

I don’t think so. After founding the company, I approached Mitchon for behind-the-scenes support. Initially, she helped us set up the streaming environment. Later, as we moved to create a presence on YouTube, we decided it would be best if Mitchon used her expertise as the official character.

── Were there any reservations about stepping into the spotlight?

Mitchon

I was like, “Really? Me? Isn’t this too important a role?” But I love streaming!

Popo P

Mitchon tires herself out when talking solo. Like Ultraman, she can go about 1.5 to 2 hours at most. However, with her managing things, everything runs smoothly.

── I see. It wouldn’t work the same way with an official character chosen through an audition. Your interactions today show a strong bond of trust.

── How many VTubers are currently in the agency?

Mitchon

There are eight of us.

── They all seem quite dedicated to streaming. Do they set their own schedules?

Mitchon

Yes, they do. They decide on their streaming hours and frequency per week. The agency doesn’t enforce anything — everyone simply loves streaming and is very committed. I often worry, “Please take a break sometimes!”

── Could you recommend content for newcomers?

Mitchon

Everyone is incredibly cute and fun, but I particularly recommend the collaboration stream we did for the academic test this year. It’s filled with amusing answers that showcase everyone’s unique characteristics, making it perfect for first-time viewers!

── The camaraderie among them is evident in their streams. Mitchon, you have a knack for ensuring everyone gets to speak. Were you naturally good at moderating discussions?

Mitchon

No, not at all! When I first started doing it, I was extremely rigid and often forgot key points. Nearly a year in, I’m finally feeling more comfortable with it.

── That’s surprising! Do you interact frequently even off-stream?

Mitchon

Yes, we chat and play games on Discord. Our off-stream relationship contributes to a positive atmosphere during streams. With established trust, we can comfortably engage during streams too. Striving to maintain a relationship akin to friendship where we can share advice with each other.

── Are you also following their streams diligently?

Mitchon

I do. Many of our VTubers stream 11-12 hours straight. I’m amazed they find time to sleep! But I truly enjoy watching everyone’s streams. I often have them playing while I eat or go about my day, so it doesn’t feel like a burden.

── Incredible! Your love for the VTubers is palpable in your words.

Easing Streaming Setup with “Alive Studio”

── I heard you usually set up your streaming screens yourself?

Mitchon

Yes, I source and arrange streaming assets, backgrounds, and props in OBS myself. For instance, if I want a desk, I search for it, download it, and place it in the scene.

── How was your experience using the “Alive Studio” service for stream design recently?

Mitchon

It’s incredibly user-friendly! Adjusting backgrounds and moving props all from OBS is extremely convenient.

── Were there any specific features you found particularly useful?

Mitchon

Having a clock feature readily available is fantastic, and the flip board feature is great fun for engaging with viewers during streams.

── Do you include chat segments in your streams? The “Topic Roulette” is great for finding new conversation starters.

Mitchon

I’d love to try the Topic Roulette! I typically start with announcements, followed by about 30 minutes of chatting, but when I run out of topics, I naturally end up talking about ramen again.

── Speaking of which, I noticed ramen on your desk during streams. Do you like it?

Mitchon

Yes! I absolutely love miso ramen, particularly the “Special Miso Ramen” from Yamaokaya. I always encourage viewers to try it.

The Future Replay Live Aspires Towards

── What are your future goals for Replay Live?

Mitchon

For our official content, we aim to continue producing projects like the academic test that bring out everyone’s unique charm. While growing individual VTuber activities, I also want our agency as a whole to expand and maybe even surpass major names like Nijisanji and Hololive!

── I’m sure goals like these inspire your team. Any advice for aspiring VTubers?

Mitchon

Remember, streaming involves a lot of work like thumbnail creation and planning at home, which can sneak up on you health-wise. It’s important to take care of your health and refresh yourself occasionally while pursuing your passion.
