Live2D Adds VTuber Tracking App ‘nizima LIVE’ to Simple License Plan

Live2D Inc. has added the tracking application for VTubers, nizima LIVE, to the “Simple License Plan” that allows mid-sized and larger businesses to use Live2D’s copyrighted works for promotional purposes without a contract or fee, starting from Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Meeting Promotional Needs Against the Background of VTuber Market Expansion

Previously, the eligible copyrighted works under this system included only the Live2D Cubism SDK and original Live2D characters. However, in recent years, as the VTuber market has expanded, there has been an increasing number of businesses wishing to utilize the official Live2D nizima LIVE for promotions, such as demonstrations at VTuber events and experiential exhibitions at trade shows.

In response to these needs, nizima LIVE has been added as eligible copyrighted work under this system. This creates an environment where businesses can more easily conduct promotional activities that highlight VTuber content.

Eligibility for Businesses with Annual Revenues of Over 10 Million Yen, Promotion Use Available Without Contract Fees

This plan is aimed at mid-sized businesses with annual revenues of over 10 million yen and large businesses with annual revenues of over 100 million yen. For “temporary use” for promotional purposes only, the use of Live2D’s copyrighted works and the associated contract establishment and fees are exempted.

Examples of eligible temporary use include exhibitions and test play at short-term events (such as trade shows), and media exposure (such as interviews) on a one-time basis. On the other hand, uses that exceed one week, those that involve beta testing or distribution of demo versions, those that result in direct benefits for users, and promotions of adult content are not eligible.

Small Businesses and Individual Users Continue to Use Different Licenses

Small businesses (with annual revenues of less than 10 million yen) and individual, student, circle, or non-profit organization users are excluded from this system. However, contracts and fees are exempted for such users under Live2D’s established usage license agreement.

It is important to note that the use of the free version of nizima LIVE is limited to “internal or supervisory purposes,” even for individuals or small businesses.

Flow from Application to Review to Use and Future Developments

To utilize this system, applicants must submit a request through the application form and be accepted after review by Live2D. In the case of acceptance, a “Copyright Usage Authorization Notice” is issued, permitting use limited to the details of the application (purpose, location, duration, etc.).

Live2D is expanding its businesses such as Live2D Cubism, nizima, nizima ACTION!!, and Live2D JUKU, and it seems that the options for promotional activities targeting VTubers and creators utilizing the company’s copyrighted works will continue to increase in the future.

Impressions and Prospects

The recent expansion of eligible works comes at a time when the VTuber landscape is broadening, and businesses are increasingly showcasing demos of nizima LIVE at events and exhibitions. This flexible update of the system aligns with the actual operational needs of the industry. By alleviating the contractual burdens for businesses in their promotional efforts, the recognition of VTuber experiences is likely to spread to the general public, ultimately leading to the revitalization of the entire Live2D ecosystem.
