IRIAM Monetization: Requirements, How to Apply, and Why Reviews Fail

Index

“I’ve kept streaming on IRIAM, but I’m not quite sure about the monetization requirements or how to apply…” “I met the requirements and applied, but I didn’t pass the review and I’m stuck without knowing why…” Once you start working as a V-Liver on IRIAM, many people run into the wall of monetization.

Here’s the short version: IRIAM monetization has three requirements—”a total of 15 or more hours of streaming,” “a total of 10 or more streaming days,” and “earning a total of 5,000 points or more.” Streaming hours and streaming days are easy to hit if you plan a schedule, but earning 5,000 points takes streams built around connecting with listeners and encouraging gifts.

This article explains the three monetization requirements and the application steps, the five reasons applications fail the review and how to fix them, how earnings work, and what to watch out for after you’re monetized.

The Three Requirements for IRIAM Monetization

To apply for IRIAM monetization, you need to meet all three requirements set by the operator. They are as follows.

  • Total streaming hours
  • Total streaming days
  • Total points earned

If even one of them is missing, the apply button itself can’t be pressed. Let’s go through what each of the three requirements involves, one at a time.

A Total of 15 or More Hours of Streaming

The first requirement is a total of 15 or more hours of streaming. You don’t have to stream all 15 hours in one go—you can build it up across multiple streams. Even if it’s hard to set aside a big block of time, you can meet the requirement by stacking up short 10- or 30-minute streams.

For example, if you stream 1.5 hours a day for 10 days, you reach exactly 15 hours. Start at a pace you can keep up comfortably.

A Total of 10 or More Streaming Days

The second requirement is a total of 10 or more streaming days. No matter how many times you stream on the same day, it counts as a single streaming day. So you need to stream across at least 10 days.

Considered together with the 15-hour requirement, streaming a little every day is the efficient approach. Try to build a comfortable schedule that lets you meet both the streaming days and the streaming hours at the same time.

Earning a Total of 5,000 Points or More

The third requirement is earning a total of 5,000 points or more. What counts toward your total earned points is the points from gifts that listeners use during your streams.

Note that points earned from login bonuses or tutorial (daily) missions don’t count. Only the gift points you earn through actual streaming activity are counted.

When it comes to earning points, it’s important to build the kind of relationships that make listeners want to send gifts, such as:

  • Greeting first-time listeners
  • Responding to comments
  • Keeping up regular streams

How to Apply for IRIAM Monetization and the Review Process

Once you’ve met the three requirements, it’s finally time to apply for monetization. You apply from My Page: confirm the requirements, agree, and tap the apply button.

From here, we’ll walk through the application steps, how long it takes to get the review result, and how to reapply if you don’t pass.

Apply from My Page

Apply for monetization from My Page

Apply for monetization from the app’s My Page. First, open “Diamonds you have” on My Page and tap “Apply for monetization.” Diamonds are the reward granted after monetization, and you can cash them out once you meet certain conditions.

Next, on the application screen, select “Proceed to the monetization review,” and in the browser that launches, check that you meet all the required conditions. Finally, agree to the confirmation items and tap “Apply for monetization” to complete your application.

Note that on an account that has never streamed, the apply button itself won’t appear.

The Review Result Arrives Within One Month

Once your application is complete, your status changes to “Monetization under review,” and the operator begins the review. According to IRIAM’s official information, the review usually takes up to one month, though it can take longer than usual depending on your application status.

The review result is sent to “For You” inside “Notifications” at the top right of the home screen, so check it regularly.

You Can Reapply Even If You Don’t Pass

Even if you fail the review, you can apply again as long as you meet the requirements. If you’re denied, first check whether there were any actions that violate the membership terms or guidelines.

If you find a problem, fix things like your stream content, profile, and any wording that steers viewers off-platform, then consider reapplying.

Five Reasons IRIAM Monetization Reviews Fail and How to Fix Them

There are cases where you meet the requirements but still don’t pass the review. If your stream content includes prohibited actions or terms violations, you can be denied even with the numeric requirements met. Before applying, check the membership terms, the guidelines, and the rights status of any materials you use.

From here, we’ll explain the five most common reasons reviews fail, along with how to address each one.

You’re Missing Even One of the Three Requirements

The most basic reason is failing to meet even one of the three requirements: streaming hours, streaming days, and total points earned. Unless all three are in place, the button on the application screen can’t be pressed in the first place.

The fix is simple: check your progress on each requirement under “Conditions required for the monetization review” on the application screen. Completed items get a checkmark, so you can see at a glance which requirement is short.

If any item is unmet, check which of streaming hours, streaming days, or points earned is short, make up the shortfall, and then apply again.

You’re Violating IRIAM’s Guidelines

If there are actions that violate the streaming guidelines or membership terms, you won’t pass the review even if you meet the requirements. The following tend to be the issues:

  • Slander or discriminatory remarks
  • Obscene content
  • Disclosing or requesting personal information
  • Using the app for dating purposes

If prohibited actions are confirmed, you may also be subject to a warning or account suspension.

As a fix, check the membership terms and guidelines before streaming, and make sure your remarks and settings don’t include anything that counts as a prohibited action.

You’re Using Illustrations with Copyright Problems

If your streaming character art (the character illustration shown on the streaming screen) has copyright problems, your monetization may be denied. For example, the following cases apply:

  • Using someone else’s illustration without permission
  • Fan art without permission from the rights holder

IRIAM is a service that, as a rule, requires the use of original content free of copyright problems. Even free materials, fan art, or commissioned illustrations aren’t necessarily licensed for commercial or streaming use. Check the terms of use and the creator’s scope of permission before using them.

You’re Promoting Other Streaming Apps

Wording inside IRIAM that steers viewers toward, or promotes, other streaming apps or external services may be judged as a for-profit action or solicitation. Avoid wording that steers viewers to other streaming apps, or that promotes or solicits for services or organizations IRIAM hasn’t approved.

Check that your profile and your remarks during streams contain no wording that could be taken as steering viewers to external services.

As a fix, we recommend reviewing your in-stream remarks, profile, and linked-social wording to make sure no language steering viewers to other apps has slipped in.

You Have a History of Past Terms Violations

If you’ve received a warning or usage restriction in the past, it’s important to check that you’re not repeating the same violation and to rebuild a streaming track record that follows the membership terms and guidelines.

As a serious risk, keep in mind that if your account is frozen, not only is your monetization revoked, but you also can’t cash out diamonds or use points.

As a fix, you need to keep streaming in line with the terms over a set period and rebuild a violation-free track record.

Building on the fixes covered so far, see this article too for how to set up an environment that lets you keep clean streams going as you work seriously toward monetization.

How IRIAM Earnings Work

Once your monetization is approved, you’re granted diamonds based on listener support and your rank, and you can cash them out at a rate of 1 diamond = 1 yen. There are two types of diamonds, and your earnings are the combined total of both:

  • Performance-based “Support Diamonds”
  • Hourly-wage-based “Time Diamonds”

From here, we’ll explain how Support Diamonds and Time Diamonds work, Time Diamonds by community rank, and rough earnings estimates, in order.

Support Diamonds, Earned Through Listener Support

Support Diamonds are a performance-based diamond calculated from listeners’ support actions and the operator’s own evaluation criteria.

The calculation involves things like the gifts, stars, and activity record (including comments) that listeners contribute. They’re granted the next day for the previous day’s activity.

Interaction with listeners and the reactions within your stream feed into Support Diamonds. That’s why it’s important to build relationships that make it easy for listeners to support you—by responding to comments and keeping up ongoing interaction.

Time Diamonds, Granted According to Rank

Time Diamonds are an hourly-wage-based reward granted according to your daily streaming hours and community rank. They apply to livers ranked B1 or higher, and the higher your rank, the higher the rate per hour.

There’s a cap on the Time Diamonds you can earn, set at up to 2 hours’ worth per day and up to 40 hours’ worth per month.

Because Time Diamonds are granted according to streaming hours within the eligible ranks and caps, they’re a reward whose earnings are easier to estimate than Support Diamonds.

Hourly Rate by Rank (B1 to the S Tier)

Here’s a summary of the Time Diamonds you can earn per hour by IRIAM community rank.

RankTime Diamonds per hour
S32,300 diamonds
S22,000 diamonds
S11,700 diamonds
A31,300 diamonds
A21,000 diamonds
A1700 diamonds
B3300 diamonds
B2200 diamonds
B1100 diamonds
D–C50 diamonds

At the top rank, S3, you’re granted up to 2,300 diamonds (= 2,300 yen) per hour. Meanwhile, the D tier through the C5 tier earn 0 Time Diamonds, and an hourly wage starts kicking in from the B1 rank.

To raise your rank, you need to stack up support points in your daily streams and turn that into maintaining and climbing your community rank.

Support Diamond Return Rate (Roughly 15–30%)

The method for calculating Support Diamonds isn’t officially disclosed; it’s determined by your post-monetization activity record—gifts, stars, comments, and so on—and IRIAM’s own evaluation criteria.

Since 1 diamond = 1 yen, if a listener sends 1,000 yen worth of gifts, the liver receives roughly 150–300 diamonds (150–300 yen).

If you belong to an agency, your reward split and whether there are bonuses change depending on your contract. Before joining, check your share, the bonus conditions, and the payment method.

Because the exact figures fluctuate based on the operator’s own evaluation criteria, treat these as estimates only.

Monthly Income Simulation by Rank

Let’s look at rough monthly income, adding Support Diamonds on top of the Time Diamonds per rank (hourly rate × the 40-hour cap). Looking at Time Diamonds alone, here are the rough earnings for 40 hours of streaming per month.

RankTime Diamond earnings at 40 hrs/month (estimate)
S392,000 yen
S280,000 yen
S168,000 yen
A352,000 yen
A240,000 yen
A128,000 yen
B312,000 yen
B28,000 yen
B14,000 yen
D–C50 yen

*1 diamond = 1 yen. The Time Diamond cap is 2 hours’ worth per day and 40 hours’ worth per month. The amounts granted per rank may be revised, so check the latest conditions on the official help page.

Support Diamonds are added on top of this, so the more support you get from listeners, the more your monthly income grows. How much you ultimately earn on IRIAM depends on your actual listener count, gift volume, streaming frequency, and rank.

Tips for Meeting IRIAM Monetization Requirements as Fast as Possible

The streaming hours and streaming days requirements can be met in as little as 10 days, but earning 5,000 points takes support from listeners. So you need to increase your chances of being supported—through your stream content, social media announcements, and interaction with other livers.

From here, we’ll introduce four concrete tips for hitting the requirements faster.

Make Streaming 1.5 Hours or More a Day a Habit

If you keep streaming 1.5 hours or more every day, you’ll meet the 15-hour streaming requirement in 10 days. By streaming every day, you can also meet the 10-or-more-streaming-days requirement at the same time.

When you stream at a set time of day, it’s easier to fit into viewers’ daily rhythm, which also helps you gain regular listeners. Stabilizing your streaming time makes it easier for regulars to drop by and increases your chances of comments and gifts.

Even for a long 1.5-hour daily stream, using BGM to create a space where listeners can stay comfortably is effective. For details, see the article below.

Announce Your Streams on Social Media to Gather Listeners

Posting your streaming schedule on social media like X (formerly Twitter) can increase the flow of new listeners. In addition to advance announcements before a stream, posting highlights and thank-yous after a stream is also effective for gaining listeners.

Sharing your stream schedule and highlights outside IRIAM serves as a reminder to existing listeners and adds more inflow routes for new ones. The more touchpoints you have with listeners, the more chances you create for comments and gifts.

Interact with Other Livers Through “Waku-Mawari” (Room Rounds)

Visiting other livers’ streams—”waku-mawari” (room rounds), meaning visiting and interacting on others’ streams—gets your presence noticed. Naturally building up interaction through comments and stars creates opportunities for other livers and their listeners to learn you exist.

That said, avoid blatant promotion or steering. It’s effective to pick interaction partners who are livers in a similar rank tier or with similar active hours. The more touchpoints you have with followers and listeners, the more chances you get to receive comments and gifts.

Actively Join Events to Earn Points

Joining the events IRIAM holds regularly increases your chances of receiving gifts and accelerates point earning.

Events make it easy to give listeners a reason to support you, and they’re easy to leverage when you’re aiming for 5,000 points. If you place well, your name is shown on the event’s participant list or ranking, increasing your exposure and helping you gain new listeners.

The events being held change with the season, so check the latest information on IRIAM’s official event announcement account or the in-app notifications. Once you decide which event to join, it’s also a good idea to announce your stream schedule in advance and share with listeners what kind of support you’d like.

Comparing IRIAM’s Monetization Requirements with Other V-Liver Apps

IRIAM’s monetization is review-based, but among V-Liver and live streaming apps, some pay out from your very first stream with no review. Here, we take up Pococha and REALITY for comparison.

Pococha: Payouts from Your First Stream with No Requirements

Pococha isn’t built around a monetization application like IRIAM; Time Diamonds are granted according to things like your support rank and streaming hours.

Compared with IRIAM, which requires clearing three requirements and a review, the big difference is that on Pococha even beginners can earn rewards from the very day they stream. The cash-out rate is 1 diamond = 1 yen. Pococha’s official help states that diamonds can be exchanged for money “from 5,000 diamonds.”

That said, there are also streaming conditions that fall outside Time Diamond eligibility, so check the official help for the latest conditions on new livers’ starting rank and the Time Diamond amounts by rank.

REALITY: Streaming and Monetization with No Requirements

REALITY is also an app where you can monetize with no special review. Gifts sent by listeners using paid coins during your stream count toward your LIVE Points.

If you hold 6,000 or more LIVE Points at month-end, you’re eligible for a bank transfer; for the gift codes below, you can exchange at 3,000 LIVE Points.

  • Amazon Gift Card (2,500 yen)
  • Google Play gift code (2,500 yen)
  • App Store & iTunes gift card (2,500 yen)

Compared with review-based IRIAM, REALITY is easier to start, but keep in mind there’s a cash-out hurdle to turning points into cash. It’s operated by REALITY, Inc. of the GREE Group.

IRIAM Monetization: Is an Agency or Going Solo More Advantageous?

Whether an agency or going solo is more advantageous changes with your activity style, so there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Each has pros and cons, so it’s important to figure out which suits you.

ItemWith an agencyGoing solo
ProsGenerous support (e.g., free illustration), agency-specific bonusesHigh freedom over stream content, no reward cut taken by an agency
ConsContract-based constraints like reward splits and activity quotasInitial costs like illustration and equipment, and all audience-building on you
Who it suitsThose who want to keep initial investment low while getting hands-on supportThose who want to decide all their stream content and direction freely

When you join an agency, a big draw is access to high-quality character art and manager support. However, reward splits, contract length, activity quotas, and rights arrangements when you leave differ by agency, so you need to check the contract carefully before joining.

Weigh it against your goals and your sense of “how I want to stream,” and choose the option you’re comfortable with.

What to Watch Out For After IRIAM Monetization

Even after your monetization is approved, you need to be mindful of the cash-out rules, taxes, and the rules for stream content. Rule violations can lead to your monetization being revoked or your account being restricted.

From here, we’ll go through the following four points in order:

  • Diamond cash-out rules
  • Taxes (filing a tax return)
  • Streams that get monetization revoked
  • Age restrictions

Cash Out Once a Month, from 500 Diamonds

To cash out diamonds, you need to hold 500 or more diamonds (worth 500 yen). You can submit a cash-out request only once, between the 16th of each month and the 15th of the next. For example, if you apply on January 16, the next time you can apply is on or after February 16. The cap per cash-out request is 1 million yen.

Also, withholding tax is deducted at the time of the request, so the amount actually transferred is less than what you requested.

Diamonds are valid for 180 days including the day you obtain them, and they expire once that period passes, so be careful. Note that once you’ve submitted a cash-out request, those diamonds have no expiration.

Keep in mind that you can’t cash out while your account is frozen.

A Tax Return Is Required Once Annual Income Exceeds 200,000 Yen

If a salaried worker, such as a company employee, earns IRIAM income as a side gig, a tax return is required once annual income exceeds 200,000 yen.

If you do this full-time, whether you need to file depends on your income amount and which deductions apply. The basic deduction amount differs by year and total income, so check the latest information from the National Tax Agency.

IRIAM income may be treated as miscellaneous income or business income, depending on the reality of your activity. Income earned continuously as a side gig often falls under miscellaneous income, but if you’re unsure, check with the tax office or a tax accountant.

Expenses directly related to your streaming activity, such as equipment and illustration costs, may be claimable as necessary expenses. Be sure to keep receipts and payment records. Because withholding is already done at cash-out, filing a tax return may get you a tax refund in some cases.

Falling-Asleep Streams and Idle Streams Get Monetization Revoked

Streams where communication with listeners isn’t happening—such as falling-asleep streams or near-silent streams—may be judged as inappropriate streams.

IRIAM is a service that values two-way exchange with listeners. Falling-asleep streams or near-idle streams count as terms violations. Repeating violations can lead to forced stream termination, warnings, account freezes, and revoked monetization.

Even after monetization, it’s important to keep streaming in line with the guidelines.

Those 15 and Under Can’t Use IRIAM

In its January 24, 2023 update, IRIAM introduced age-based usage restrictions. Users 15 and under can’t use features including streaming, watching, and buying or using points, except for some functions like inquiries.

However, once you turn 16, you can resume use with a registered account. Users aged 16 to 17 have a restriction that blocks late-night and early-morning streaming from 22:00 to 5:00, plus a point-purchase cap of up to 10,000 yen per month.

To verify age, entering your date of birth is required at registration, and you can’t use the app if it’s left blank. Registering with a false age violates the membership terms, so minors aiming for monetization should register with their correct age.

Conclusion

This article explained IRIAM monetization—from the three requirements to how to apply, why reviews fail, how earnings work, and what to watch out for afterward. The three requirements for monetization are:

  • A total of 15 or more hours of streaming
  • A total of 10 or more streaming days
  • Earning a total of 5,000 points or more

You apply from My Page, and the review result usually arrives within one month. Even if you don’t pass, you can reapply once you fix the cause, so take it in stride.

After monetization, paying attention to the cash-out rules, tax filing, streaming etiquette, and age restrictions—and keeping your streams healthy—is the key to growing your earnings while staying active for the long haul.

If you’re aiming for monetization, focus not just on meeting the requirements but on streaming continuously within the terms and building relationships with listeners.
